The Hands That Build: A Journey Through Craftsmanship and Design

The Elaia Aegeon Residences draw from both tradition and modern construction technology. Their creator, Sakis Diamantidis, a descendant of a long line of master builders from Northern Greece, grew up amidst construction sites and the ever-present call of craftsmanship. His father, part of the generation of builders who traversed Greece during the post-war reconstruction era, passed on to Sakis the artisan’s secrets and an enduring passion for creation.

Though Sakis studied photography—earning distinctions in both domestic and international exhibitions—the pull of construction proved irresistible. He contributed to major projects such as the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre and the Ledra Marriott Hotel, while also developing his own line of furniture, objects, and bespoke constructions that marry industrial aesthetics with functionality.

In this project, the result of a collaboration between architect Tasos Saltas and Danai Nomikou, Sakis Diamantidis went beyond the role of contractor and financier. With hands-on involvement, he shaped both the space and the building itself, crafting the roof’s cornice and contributing to the creation of the metallic sculptural elements in collaboration with sculptor Yiorgos Kanellos. All wooden elements of the structure—from the roof to the staircases and floors—are also his handiwork.

His extensive experience in construction, commitment to innovative and environmental sustainability, pursuit of aesthetic excellence, and unparalleled dedication and work ethic ensure projects of high quality and longevity—respectful of both the individual and the surrounding environment.

Crafting Serenity: Luxury, Sustainability, and Mediterranean Beauty

The philosophy behind the project was the harmonious coexistence of comfort and understated luxury within the purity of the Euboean landscape, sheltering with warmth and simplicity the lives of its inhabitants.

Hospitable buildings, gently withdrawn into tranquility, wrapped in the melody of cicadas, the shimmer of silver olive leaves under the sun, and the lush greenery that, after generous rains, blankets the landscape with ferns.

The project’s goal and achievement from the very beginning was its seamless integration into the natural environment, with volumes and colours that feel like an extension of the rolling hills.

If it were a scent, it would be freshly baked bread wrapped in fig leaves; if it were a sound, it would be the whisper of the wind through the olive trees and the soft murmur of autumn rain; and if it were a color, it would be the warm golden hue of sand glistening under the sun.
